How To Conserve Gas Easily

In recent years the once simple task of fueling a vehicle has become an overwhelming burden in households around the world. The price per gallon of gas and the cost per barrel of crude oil continue to break all-time high records. While we may see slight relief from time to time with gas prices dropping a few cents during certain seasons or "off peak driving periods", it would be naive to think the price of a gallon of gas will ever drop to what it once was. In fact I think it would be safe to assume gas prices will continue to rise.

You may not be able to control gas prices, but you can control how much money you spend on gas. Conservation is the key, and with the tips below you can ease that pain at the pump and keep some cash in your wallet!
Walk Or Ride Your Bike As Often As Possible.

Obviously if you are going on a family outing your Huffy probably won't accommodate all passengers. But maybe for that trip to the convenience store your bike or sneakers could do the trick. It's an easy way to conserve gas, and you'll get some exercise in the process. Talk about killing two birds with one stone!

Maintain Your Car. A poorly maintained vehicle can reduce your MPG (miles per gallon) by 15% or more. You can easily conserve gas and save money when your car runs properly. The goal is to eliminate any unnecessary stress on your car's engine, which would cause it to consume gas at a much faster rate. Regular service check-ups with a professional mechanic will diagnose and allow you to repair any faults that may be wasting gas.

Get Rid Of The Junk In The Trunk! 200 pounds of junk will reduce your mileage by one mile per gallon. Don't store unnecessary items in your car's trunk or the bed of your truck. The only items you should carry in your vehicle are items needed for the particular trip, and of course an emergency kit.

Avoid Long Warm-Ups. 30-60 seconds is more than enough time to warm your car up, even on the coolest of days. Believe it or not, the engine will actually warm up faster while you are driving. If you're warming your car up for more than a minute; the oil companies thank you!
Use Cruise Control.

If your vehicle has a cruise control feature, you will want to utilize it on long distance trips and highway driving. Cruise control will conserve about 5 to 10 percent of gas.

Fuel-Up While It Is Cool. During hotter periods of the day, gas will be less dense, and will be more likely to evaporate as you pump it. Always gas-up early in the morning or late in the evening. It may seem minute, but hey -- we wanna conserve gas, right? Trust me, it all adds up to money in your pocket.

Don't Idle. When traffic is at a stand-still, shut your engine off. If you just need to run into the store real quick, shut your engine off! Idling wastes about a quart of gas every 15 minutes. Stop unnecessary idling to easily conserve gas and save more money.

Keep A Steady Pace. Avoid rapid acceleration and sudden stops. Both will put stress on your vehicle's engine leading to wasted gas. Driving at a steady pace will reduce the energy needed to run your car's engine, making it an easy way to conserve gas and save money.

Inspect Your Gas Cap. If your vehicle's gas cap does not fit snugly, you may be losing fuel. Gasoline obviously is a gas, and will find the slightest of openings to escape. If you have any doubt that your gas cap is providing an air-tight seal, it's time for a replacement. A new gas cap will only cost you about 3 or 4 bucks, and will allow you to conserve gas for years to come.
Use Your Car's Air Conditioner Wisely.

A common misconception is that running your vehicle's air conditioner will waste gas. In fact it will conserve gas when used appropriately. If you're just cruising around town on a warm day, shutting off your A.C. and rolling down the windows will easily conserve gas and save you money. But if you're on a long road trip or highway driving, you may actually conserve more gas by running the A.C. The reason: wind resistance. If you're traveling at a high speed with your windows down, the incoming wind resistance will act as unnecessary weight, and cause your vehicle to consume more fuel. So this one is really a judgment you must make according to the situation.

With no end to gas hikes in clear sight, conservation is the key. By putting the above practices to use and developing good habits, you can actually lower your gas costs even as gasoline prices continue to rise!

Tips For Winter Car Protection - Outdoor Car Covers

With winter just a stone's throw away and fall in full season, we're looking at what could be some very harsh weather conditions in the end of 2008 and into 2009. I'm not a weather man like Bill Murray was in Groundhog Day.... However, whether you're in the mid-west where leaf foliage is at high levels, or in the west or east coast areas where rainfall may reach extreme levels, I'm going to go over one of the easiest ways to protect the exterior of your vehicle. It's as simple as one two three with a car cover. You'll stay protected at a very reasonable price, keeping your precious ride in tip top shape.

For me, the issue became apparent that I need something to protect my ride when I had bird droppings and tree droppings on my windshield on a weekly basis. The cost to get my 350z detailed is near 50 bucks. I would get it washed at least twice a month to keep it nice and shining so these costs were really adding up. It looked great, but I still had to deal with the bird spots on my windshield in between details. Let me just say, I pretty much despise seagulls now :)
So what I wanted to find was a better long-term solution. A car cover seemed like it would require a lot of hands on work and I didn't really want to deal with that on a daily basis. What I ended up finding out was that it took about 1 minute to put it on when I got to work, and even less time to take it off. And I was able to cut down my detailing costs to once/month. I could cut that back even more now but I like to to have the interior shined up... the Z looks great that way.
So this leads to my overall recommendation. Since I have a feeling this will be a harsh winter, I really think those that spend a lot of time and money keeping their car nice should get an outdoor car cover. It also helps protect your vehicle from those little knicks and dents that can happen in parking lots.

What I found in most retail stores like Walmart were pretty cheap covers, but I didn't just want to wrap my car in a towel. I have read that on windy days, cheap car covers have the potential to actually scratch your paint when they flap in the wind. So what I looked for was an outdoor cover that was made of high quality material. That's all I want to place on my car, otherwise it wouldn't be worth the investment.

I went with a fabric with several durable qualities, here's what it offers:
The high-strength, polyester base fabric is naturally UV-resistant. To make the car cover more resistant to the rigors of sun exposure, UV inhibitors have been added to the polymers to help slow-down naturally-occurring degradation.

* Weatherproof Fabric sheds water as soon as it hits the car cover, leaving your vehicle dry.

* Superior Dry Time Because the car cover fabric sheds moisture, it has an absorption factor of only 2%, compared with up to 40% for standard woven and non-woven fabrics. That means, if the car cover has been sitting out in the rain, just shake it out and it's practically dry.

* Breathable The car cover fabric allows any heat or condensation that builds up under the cover to easily escape.

* UV-resistant Special additives in the fabric prevent UV degradation while protecting your vehicle's paint and interior.

* Dust-proof The car cover fabric's patented fiber encapsulation process prevents dust from filtering through the fabric.

* Scratch-less Polymers provide a silky smooth finish to the fabric and provide superior paint protection. The fabric has been tested at 1,000 cycles on abrasion wheels without scratching (surface must be clean and waxed).

* Durable The encapsulation process is not affected by heat or cold and the process won't degrade over the life of the car cover fabric.

* Easy Care Unlike non-woven fabrics, you can clean most car-size car covers in your home washer and dryer.

* Packs small and Light The car cover packs into 1/4 to 1/2 the volume of standard multi-layer, non-woven fabrics

A Few Things on How to Produce Biodiesel and Save Money Using It

Nowadays, everyone can feel the effects of global warming, which is greatly caused by the harmful emissions of carbon dioxide from cars and other vehicles. This process gives way to the creation of pollution, smog, and even sulfurs emissions, all of which are destructive elements that cause the deterioration of the planet. Now, more than ever, people need to look for an alternative fuel that is friendlier to the environment than the regular diesel fuel. It's time to learn how to produce biodiesel.

Biodiesel is a safe, clean-burning fuel that is made from local and renewable or recyclable plant sources. These plant sources include vegetable oils and oils from other kinds of seeds, such as canola, hemp, soy beans, and peanuts. Biodiesel goes through the process of transesterification, which is basically an uncomplicated chemical alteration of ordinary vegetable oil that makes the fuel usable in diesel engines and keeps it from thickening and clogging during the winter season or in colder temperatures. With all the benefits using biodiesel brings, it's really high time to learn how to produce biodiesel.

Producing biodiesel is not as difficult as most people think. The first thing you are going to need is a modern diesel engine. Biodiesel can be obtained from vegetable oil through the process of transesterification, and any modern diesel engine that does not have rubber seals in its fuel system can be converted to run on vegetable oil. The rubber seals are likely to deteriorate after some time of being exposed to vegetable oil, which acts as solvent. There are several websites that offer tutorials on how to produce biodiesel. Search the web now.

What Home Biodiesel Kits Can Do For You

Since biodiesel has become more of a necessity than just simply as a preference over the traditional petroleum diesel, there are a lot of alternatives to get its advantages work for you. If your car is already running on diesel, opting for biodiesel would only require minimal configuration on the engine, and none at all at times. There may also be a need to change parts such as the fuel filter, although these are regular maintenance procedures even with regular fuels. If you are planning to purchase a car, you can easily ask a dealer to give you the options for those that run on biodiesel only. If the two options would not work for you, then it would be time to consider purchasing of home biodiesel kits as the next action.

Since biodiesel kits are offered by various companies, choosing which of them would have the most advantage may be difficult. Directions may be contained in the manual, but oftentimes a professional help from a plumber of an electrician or a plumber is needed. Either that, or the home biodiesel kits itself are expensive.

To be sure to get the best ones the first time instead of spending money again in a trail and error basis, you can do well by keeping these two reminders. First is to guarantee that the company you are searching for is credible. Compare their offers and their product reviews from different sites as well. Naturally, their own sites would have flowering reviews for the product, so better check for user forums and get opinions from them instead. Second is to make sure that the company that offers home biodiesel kits would have a money back guarantee or if they have a customer service support - both would definitely be better.

Going green can definitely guarantee satisfaction that is commensurate to your car's performance.
